I’ve said this almost every spring, but this year I’m actually doing it.

My lilac trees are becoming bushes again. I have a ton around my house and love them, and others I’ve spoken to say I can trim more (though to do these two was almost a whole day…), but this is a start.

That’s the thing. Sometimes you just have to start. Decide now is the time and just go. Start cutting. Start cleaning your closet. Start switching your personal care, cosmetics and cleaning products to safer alternatives. Start writing that book. Start menu planning. Start exercising. Start.

Small steps of continual progress. That’s it. Decide it’s time and do it. I recently read the “5 Second Rule” by Mel Robbins. The rule is simple. It takes five seconds of courage to make meaningful life changes. Start with a countdown 5-4-3-2-1 and go. Don’t overthink- just do.

When I jumped in with Beautycounter there were plenty of timing reasons to wait. I was on vacation. The wifi was questionable. It was a busy time of year. But I did it anyway. There’s never going to be a perfect time for anything. There will always be a reason not to. The day I went all in with those two lilacs, we were dog sitting, but toddler was roaming around and I was trying to keep track of all those moving parts without killing the lilacs. But I started, and it looks great. Well, it will look great soon… I hope. No, I know it will. They look a little rough up close right now, but with anything, put in the work now and reap the benefits later.

Just start.
