As a new mom, I was horrified to learn about the lack of accountability in the personal care and cosmetic industry. Just because something is sold in store doesn't mean it's been tested for safety. In fact, there are ingredients commonly found in products in the US that are banned in the EU because they don't meet safety standards. Some are known carcinogens and endocrine system disruptors. I've partnered with Beautycounter to share what I've learned with others and further the mission of getting safer products in the hands of everyone. Join me on my journey as I #switchtosafer!

Take Good Care

I've been thinking a lot about taking care of others. For the past 14 months or so, my focus has been about 99% on taking care of my family. I do brush my teeth, shower, and eat the meals prepared... Continue Reading →

Makeup Safety

I'll be the first to admit- I used to keep my cosmetics way too long. I never really used them, so it seemed wasteful to throw them out after six months. I figured I would be the exception. Luckily, I... Continue Reading →

Stress of being a new Mom

I'm not going to lie. Being a new mom is sometimes a lot. Most of the time it's great, but sometimes I want to run around the house screaming too. From the minute you consider getting pregnant, and start researching... Continue Reading →

Makeup. A Conundrum.

Alicia Keys was on the Today show the other day. She stopped wearing makeup, a decision that makes her feel centered and powerful according to the article on US magazine Friday, September 2nd. I'm amazed every time I see her... Continue Reading →

Accessibility

I read an interesting critique the other day about companies that proclaim to care about safety for all, yet price their products in such a way they're inaccessible to the majority of consumers. It's something I've struggled with, being as... Continue Reading →

Teen Health Concerns

An article on healthychild.org (found here) lays out some pretty scary results of a study done by University of California- Berkeley, quoted below. After three days, the teens’ urine tests showed these decreases in the concentrations of the cosmetics ingredients... Continue Reading →

A lifetime of exposure

You can drive yourself crazy following all the rules of pregnancy. Everyone (hopefully) goes into it knowing they shouldn't smoke or drink alcohol, but as I did my due diligence and research during my pregnancy, I was intrigued to find... Continue Reading →
