Waiting is one of the hardest things we do.

We do it all the time.

We wait for mundane things- a movie to start, our food to be cooked, to get to the front of the line. No one likes these things, but they don’t cause undue stress.

We wait for bigger things- to hear back after a job interview, for medical test results, to start at the college of our dreams after a summer of anticipation.

We wait to start our lives.

We wait to take that chance.

We wait.

Then what?

Sometimes the wait is quick and painless and the next step is positive.

Sometimes we wait forever for good news.

Sometimes it’s bad news.

Sometimes, and perhaps the worst, we wait and wait and wait then realize that if we had just taken action at the beginning, whatever we’re waiting for would be done by now.

Better Beauty Vermont wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our livesThere’s no perfect time. There is always something we can do to direct our lives. When I took the job with Beautycounter, I was on vacation with flickering Wi-Fi and a toddler trying to climb everything. I could have waited for the perfect time, but I didn’t. I had to call my bank to get my direct deposit information to finish enrolling. My products were likely to arrive before we got home. I wanted to dive in and start, but I also wanted to participate in vacation.

I didn’t wait.

I couldn’t be happier.

I’ve found a community of people that share my passion for educating families about the potentially harmful ingredients in personal care and cosmetics. I found a social mission that rewards me financially and emotionally.

So what are you waiting for?

Are you waiting for that perfect job to just arrive in your inbox?

Go out and find it.

Are you waiting to start eating better and getting more exercise until the temperature is just right and your new sneakers arrive?

Clean the junk out of your pantry and take a walk around the block.

Are you waiting for news that has you on edge?

Focus that energy on what you can control. Go for a run or walk, write in your journal, meet a friend for coffee.

Waiting can be a good thing. It can give us a pause to consider what really matters. It can refocus our energy. It can teach us patience. It can result in a great movie and delicious meal. It can lead us to our passions and a mission that sets our soul on fire. It can also paralyze us.

So what are you waiting for?

What actions are you taking today?
