Head to google (after you finish this post of course!) and you’ll likely find 700 billion results on what to do, eat, wear, and think during pregnancy. Don’t eat deli meat was one that stuck out to me. I’ve never been a huge sandwich person, but now that I know you avoid it to avoid listeria and other gross things, it makes it even more unappetizing even when I’m not pregnant. Another thing that stuck out was the advice to avoid painting your nails, dyeing your hair and certain cosmetics.

Why?

If it’s not safe during pregnancy, is it safe the rest of the time? Unless you’re Michelle Duggar, you’re likely to spend more of your life not pregnant, so why are you changing habits to protect your health and that of your baby for only nine months? Why not switch to safer products year round?

Because they don’t work as well? Because they’re too expensive? It’s too hard to do the research?

Nonsense.

Look, some of those issues might be true, but I’ve done the work for you. Check out the video I did the other day to see some of my high preforming, safe for pregnancy favorites:

The main thing I’ve found? These safer, high performing products last forever because you don’t need a lot of it to work-without needing to overcome all the fillers and other gunk, they go right to work and get the job done. Plus, I feel great knowing that the products I’m using on myself and my family are safe for everyone’s use and are not going to add to our chemical burden. Look- you eat organic food, exercise regularly and slather potentially harmful products over your largest organ? That just doesn’t calculate.

I’ve found a lot of amazing safer alternatives that Beautycounter doesn’t carry- I love Little Seed Farm Deodorant

Better Beauty Vermont Little Seed Farm Deodorant

There are tons of safer nail polish alternatives- my friend Heather sells some awesome ones through her store- The Gold Tout – she’s got great gifts and other things, so check it out and shop small!

I don’t dye my hair, but I’m happy to work with you to find safer alternatives- considering how often you dye your hair, and avoiding products that sit on your scalp for a long time are ways to make that part of your personal care safer.

Lastly- don’t forget your other cleaners- dish soap, laundry detergent, general house cleaning- Norwex has some great solutions- you really can clean your entire house with just water!

I’d love to hear what you’ve found or what struggles you face- comment below or join us in our Facebook Community and together, we can get safer products in the hands of everyone!

If it’s unsafe for the 9 months you’re pregnant, why is it OK for the other 900+ months of your life?
