Let me tell you something- this motherhood journey teaches me something new every day.
After a long day back at my seasonal job, I picked up my daughter, we headed to Aldi (if you’re not shopping there you’re missing out!), then a stop at the regular grocery (sadly, Aldi doesn’t have Thomas Dairy milk…), then home to unload the whole lot, make dinner, do laundry, pack for the next day, and collapse.
Now my daughter also had a long day- back at Daycare and getting used to that routine. She was a little fed up with the shopping. As I took the first load into the house, she headed to the back of the car to help.
Now, a gallon of milk weighs about 8 pounds. She weighs about 30. That milk (that she chose as her thing to carry) is about one third her body weight. She was determined. She didn’t make it all the way to the house (we have to park quite far while the patio is under construction), but she made it pretty far.
The life lesson?
Never Underestimate the Power of Small.
Small changes to your routine can make a profound difference. Read The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (affiliate link- it won’t bite)- it will blow your mind. Here’s a teaser:
“Small wins are exactly what they sound like, and are part of how keystone habits create widespread changes. A huge body of research has shown that small wins have enormous power, an influence disproportionate to the accomplishments of the victories themselves. “Small wins are a steady application of a small advantage,” one Cornell professor wrote in 1984. “Once a small win has been accomplished, forces are set in motion that favor another small win.” Small wins fuel transformative changes by leveraging tiny advantages into patterns that convince people that bigger achievements are within reach.”
Small changes in the products you use in your home can make a huge difference in your health and wellness. This is something I learned through my partnership with Beautycounter and I’ve never had healthier skin or felt better about the products I use. You can read more about my Beautycounter journey here: Why Beautycounter
Switching a coffee for WIN Daily Lift in the morning starts my day off on a better foot. Same routine- something tasty to drink to start my day, but actual healthy and clean nutrition. That small switch keeps me from mindlessly eating crap for fake energy.
The biggest small change you can make however? Believe you can do it. Believe you can change. Believe you can carry that milk, run that extra mile, make that presentation, start that business.
Every small change for the better counts. You don’t have to rewrite your entire life. Small things have big impact.
